Sabbir at the Estate Agents - Cardboard Citizens/Black Apron Entertainment/Big Issue
I was commissioned by Cardboard Citizens to write a short film for a series of short films in collaboration with Black Apron Entertainment, called More Than One Story.
Each of the nine monologues explores a reason for somebody becoming homeless – from domestic violence to failures in the care or prison system.
I wanted to write about the impact of the Hostile Environment on migrants on people's right to housing, focusing on the injustice of the 'Right to Rent' checks with Shelter have found leads to discrimination to renters based on their race, nationality or ethnicity. Sabbir at the Estate Agents is about a teenage boy who's been sofa surfing with his mum for months on end because of undue pressure of these measures.
‘In Time’ : Through the Cracks - English Touring Theatre/Office of Everyone
I was really pleased to be asked to write 'In Time', drama like you’ve never experienced it before, through the lens of augmented reality, for ETT and Office of Everyone's Through the Cracks project.
A queer love story woven through the fabric of time travel, 'In Time' has a stellar cast of Sophie Melville, Annabel Baldwin, Dorothea Meyer-Bennett and Sir Ian McKellan.
